A chieftain of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms as nothing but building castles in the sky.

Speaking while reacting to the claim by the president that his reforms are yielding positive results, the Ebonyi State born business man and politician said that the only way to measure good governance is the quality of life of the citizens.

He said that Nigerians are still going through hell under the current administration, adding that the worst of it is that there is even no hope of things getting any better in the nearest future.

Speaking further, he said that instead of the ruling party trying to find solution to the myriad of problems facing Nigerians, they are spewing propaganda, half-truths and outright lies to deceive gullible Nigerians.

According to him, what Nigerians need is food on their tables and in the night to be able to sleep with their two eyes closed and not that foreign reserve is increasing.

His words: “President Bola Tinubu said that his administration’s bold economic reforms are yielding positive results, that he has stabilized the economy, and restored Nigeria’s global image and investor confidence. The questions are, what are the prices of foodstuffs in the market? As I speak, the cheapest bag of rice is selling above N80,000.

“He claimed that he has stabilized the exchange rate at N1,500. This is what he inherited at N400.00 per dollar from Muhammad Buhari administration. Is that not shameful? He also said that he has restored investors’ confidence. But last year after junketing the whole world, what Nigeria got as foreign direct investment was paltry one billion dollars while countries like Kenya and Egypt made over 40 billion dollars. So all these fake records, fake statistics and outright lies and deception would never help the country”.

Akuma said that poverty and insecurity have worsened under the presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as many of the local government areas in the North are under the grip of bandits and terrorists.

“President Tinubu said that he is strengthening agriculture and infrastructure to achieve food security and lift rural economies. I wonder where and how he is doing that becausee there is no way you can strengthen agriculture to achieve food security in the midst of worsening insecurity. Benue state which is the food basket of the country has been over-run by terrorists masquerading as herders. The same thing with plateau state which is the home of cereals and other agricultural products in Nigeria. The same thing with my own state, Ebonyi which is an agrarian state. But today farmers can no longer go to their farmers because of the fear of bandits who have taken over the forests and farm lands in the country. So you can see that his so called reforms is nothing but building castles in the air. They are having no positive impact on the lives of Nigerians,” Akuma said.

He appealed to Nigerians to go and get their voters cards and be ready to vote in the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the years of the All Progressives Congress have become the years of the locust, adding: “There is no way Nigerians would continue to vote the same way and expect a different result In governance.”
