Golden Eaglets prolific striker, Success Isaac, says that the Nigerian Under-I7 team is fully focused on the task that awaits them as they fly the country’s flag in the forthcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup scheduled to take place in the UAE next month.
In a phone chat from their Calabar camp to News Express, Isaac informs that the technical crew of the team, led by head coach Manu Garba, is desperate to maintain Nigeria’s proud tradition of success in the cadet World Cup.
‘Our coaches are working very hard to put us in shape for the coming Under-27 World Cup competition. The training sessions have been very demanding. They are desperate to see that we do well as most of the country’s Under-17 sides have done in the past cadet youth tournaments,” Isaac said.
Some days ago, the assistant coach of the Eaglets told the BBC that the team is looking forward to the challenge. “We have to prepare ourselves well. The most important thing is that we get ourselves ready psychologically, physically, tactically and mentally,” he noted.
While the Eaglets have been battling with tactics, fitness, and technical details in Calabar for more than a month now, Isaac quips that he is enjoying the challenge, and that he is not missing his family back home. “There’s a time for everything. This is the time for work, and I accept the fact,” he adds.
Nigeria and Brazil are the two most successful nations in the history of the cadet tournament. Nigeria have been drawn in Group F where they will come up against Mexico, Iraq, and Sweden in Al Ain, Dubai. Nigerians would be expecting Isaac to carry on with his fine goalscoring feat for the Eaglets and help the team win a fourth Under-17 World Cup, after triumphs in China (1985), Japan (1993), and South Korea (2007).
