No going back on National Convention — PDP declares

Amb Umar Iliya Damagum, PDP National Chairman

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, is insisting that there is no going back on the party’s national convention, billed for November in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Damagum spoke on Tuesday during the inauguration of the 110-member National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) in Abuja.

“As you know, the 2025 National Convention is scheduled to be held in Ibadan, and that is sacrosanct, and I want to make it very clear,” the PDP chieftain told the gathering of party members and leaders.

The convention committee is led by the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, while that of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, will work as the vice chairman.

Governor Peter Mbah was picked as the convention committee secretary.

In his charge to the group, Damagun expressed confidence in its ability to deliver on the mandate of organizing a seamless event.

“My charge to this Committee is simple: as you carry out your work, let fairness, equity, justice, and unity of purpose be your guiding principles. Let us set aside personal grievances and ambitions that do not serve the collective interest,” he said.

“Let us focus on the bigger picture: building public trust by proving to Nigerians through this convention that the PDP remains the vanguard of democracy and the blueprint for due process.

“Let every member of our Party see, in your conduct, the assurance that PDP belongs to all. I have no doubt that we will deliver a convention that reaffirms the PDP as the Party of the People, by the People, and for the People.”

The inauguration, which was held at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, followed the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Nigeria’s main opposition party will hold the convention from November 15–16, 2025, in the South-Western state of Oyo. (Channels TV)
