An ultra-modern science laboratory block, built through community effort at Eluama Secondary School, was yesterday afternoon, Friday, August 29, 2025, commissioned and handed over to the Abia State Government.

Eluama Community in Isuikwuato, Abia State, known for her community development efforts, made this possible through the able contributions of Eluama Development Union, the umbrella group governing the community.

During the hand-over ceremony, the Abia State Commissioner for Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, who represented the government represented the state government praised the industry of community in labouring to bequeath a lasting legacy for her children and admonished them not to relent.

The project which cost the community a whopping N50m was remarkably completed within a record period of one year.

According to the President-General of EDU, Noble Cyril Uchenye, it was the 'cry out' of a science teacher of the school who posted the picture of dilapidated structure and students sitting on water-logged classroom block that spurred the community into action.

Principal of the school, Elder Emmanuel Ezugwu, expressed gratitude to the community for what he thought was impossible to happen under his watch.

Coordinator of the project, Associate Professor Chidi Esike, a world acclaimed physician, traced the genesis of the school to 1978 when barely eight years after the devastating civil war where the Igbo man was given only £20 with which to re-start life, the community was able to build and hand over the school to government.
