Contrary to plans, Nnamdi Oduamadi, Shola Ameobi and Elderson Echiejile are yet arrive to Nigeria’s camp in Calabar ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Malawi.

“The flights of the trio from Abuja to Calabar have had to be diverted to Port Harcourt following poor weather at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar,” according to a Supersport report.

“The rainy conditions in Calabar, it was learned, made visibility poor for the two aircrafts carrying the Super Eagles trio and other passengers to land,” the report said, adding:

“Ameobi and Echiejile are said to be travelling in the same domestic flight which also has an executive committee member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on board.

“Oduamadi is, however, in a different flight from that of Ameobi and Echiejile.

“It was gathered that after two failed attempts to land at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, the aircraft carrying Oduamadi and other passengers had to be diverted to the Port Harcourt airport.”

Supersport quoted an official of the Nigerian national team, who does not want to be named as saying: “Their flights have all been diverted due to bad weather here in Calabar. It has been raining all day here.”

Super Eagles camp at the Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel in Calabar had come a live yesterday afternoon with 17 players in town for the 2014 World Cup Group F qualifying game with the Flames of Malawi.

Among early trainers for the African champions were stand-in skipper, Vincent Enyeama, Chelsea superstar, John Mikel Obi, goalkeepers Ausin Ejide and Chigozie Agbim.

New Turkey recruit, Godfrey Oboabona, James Okwuosa, who was the first player to arrive camp on Monday morning, Brown Ideye, Soolomon Kwambe, Benjamin Francis, Azubuike Egwuekwue, Lazio midfield anchor, Ogenyo Onazi, Uche Nwofor, who scored two beautiful goals against Bafana Bafana in the Mandela Challenge.

When the team arrived camp its hotel other players who came in through Abuja were already waiting. Among them, Efe Ambrose, Sunday Mba, whose deal with a French side is now in doubt, Ahmed Musa, Obinna Nsofor and Victor Moses.

Head Coach, Stephen Keshi has said he is happy with the response of the players and he expects a good game against Malawi.
