By Bola Bamigbola
Members of the 1998/1999 Clinical Medical Set of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have donated a series of projects worth N20m to their alma mater, including the renovation of the Clinical Students’ Hostel.
Other interventions by the set include the installation of an ultramodern dental chair, provision of a functional borehole, refurbishment of the students’ common room, repair of leaking roofs, and replacement of 11 doors within the hostel complex.
Speaking at the handover ceremony on Thursday, the President of the set, Dr. Hassan Adelakun, said the gesture was in appreciation of the university’s impact on their lives and to positively affect the current generation of medical students.
He noted that the group had earlier donated a 60KVA soundproof Perkins generator to the College Auditorium/Demonstration Room to ensure a reliable power supply for academic and training activities.
“We are here because the university was here for us. This project, which cost N20m, is meant to improve students’ welfare, enhance practical training and clinical readiness, and create safer, healthier study spaces,” Adelakun said.
He explained that the projects covered an ultramodern dental chair for student practice, a functional borehole for the hostel, tubular batteries for the reading rooms, 25 chairs for the Part 6 reading room, refurbishment of the students’ common room with new furniture and fittings, as well as repairs to termite-damaged rooms and the general painting of the hostel.
Adelakun urged students to adopt a maintenance culture, stressing that “small acts of upkeep yield lasting benefits for everyone.”
In her remarks, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Bernice Adegbehingbe, commended the alumni for their contributions, noting that the projects would significantly improve the learning environment for medical students.(PUNCH)
