The party secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has been taken over by the police, in a move to forestall further controversy and breakdown of law and order.
Security operatives were deployed to the building in the state capital, Akure, after protests by members of the party over the alleged imposition of a governorship candidate by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the APC.
The aggrieved APC supporters had locked the gates early on Tuesday after they drove out party officials from the secretariat and announced the sack of the chairman, Isaacs Kekemeke.
On Wednesday morning, other party supporters loyal to Kekemeke arrived the secretariat to break open the gates.
They later moved away to other positions along the street and in front of the secretariat as the police effectively took charge, in conjunction with the Civil Defence Corps.
Secretary of the APC in Ondo, Rahman Rotimi, condemned the protesters as he noted that the party secretariat was the symbol of the party and could not be locked by anybody.
He said there was bound to be differences among members of a political party like APC, but the differences could be resolved. (independentnig.com)
