PDP cancels Convention, extends tenure of Caretaker Committee

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended the tenure of Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee for one year.

The extension was effected through vote of confidence by the national delegates at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt, the River State capital.

This is coming after the unresolved legal tussle over the party’s leadership, and the sealing of the planned convention venue in Port Harcourt.

The police say their action is justified.

Earlier in the day, the Nigerian Police cordoned off the venue of the planned National Convention of PDP in Port Harcourt.

The action by the security agent follows the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday barring the PDP from holding the convention.
