The Delta State Government has announced an additional two-week grace period for motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke) riders to comply with its ongoing security profiling exercise.

The state government urged all operators in this category to obtain the approved riders’ cards, aprons, emblems, and stickers at the subsidized rate of ?7,500 (seven thousand five hundred naira). These items can be purchased through the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycles Operators Association (COMTOA) offices across the state.

The Commissioner for the Directorate of Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, stressed the need for riders to comply with the profiling directive, noting that the security measures are designed to curb the activities of miscreants in communities across the state.

“The security profiling initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance public safety and regulate the operations of commercial motorcycle and tricycle transport services,” Agofure said.

The Directorate of Transport, through its Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIO), in collaboration with security agencies and the COMTOA Taskforce, will commence strict enforcement after the grace period lapses. Defaulters risk having their motorcycles or tricycles impounded.

The government has therefore called on all affected operators to take advantage of this extension to avoid penalties. (ASABA METRO)
