Imo Senatorial Re-run: Activist faults former Speaker’s election, vows to implore Senate to investigate alleged fraudulent past

A human rights activist and socio-political crusader, Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha, says he is “extremely worried by the manner in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in Imo State under Governor Rochas Okorocha manipulated the Okigwe Senatorial Re-run and supplementary elections in favour of the former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu.”

Addressing newsmen in the state capital Owerri, Citizen Iwuoha stated that Chief Uwajumogu failed woefully in the election, even in his own polling booth at Ihitte Uboma LGA of the state. He regretted what he described as the high level of electoral fraud carried out by the INEC personnel in collaboration with Gov. Okorocha and security operatives to rob the PDP candidate, Senator Athan Achonu, of the mandate freely given to him by the people of Okigwe zone.
According to Citizen Iwuoha, the electoral fraud is an indication and confirmation that Uwajumogu has always been a product of fraud, as he had earlier filed petitions at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Police Force headquarters, Abuja
against the former Speaker’s fraudulent practices.
The social crusader also hinted that he does not speak in favour of the PDP candidate, Senator Achonu, but in the interest of the people of Okigwe zone, who he maintained, voted massively for Senator Achonu.
Voicing out his anger, the activist added that in a typical Mafia society, the INEC – REC who knowingly announced the fake result in favour of Uwajumogu deserves to be dealt with. He further maintained that the Okigwe Senate re-run election is a clear manifestation of Governor Okorocha’s wicked plot to implant an unpopular and unacceptable candidate on Imo citizens as governor in the awaited 2019 general election.
The activist who was a Senior Special Assistant on Media at the Imo State House of Assembly therefore tasked the people of Okigwe zone to resist the imposition of Uwajumogu on them as Senator, stating that Okorocha will never be allowed to impose his candidate in 2019.
“Come 2019, we will elect our own Governor. We will frustrate Okorocha’s plot to impose his candidate on us. If APC will retain the state, we will decide who the candidate will be, and not Okorocha. There are good aspirants in APC, just as there are good aspirants in other political Parties” he declared.
