Two children have been reportedly swept away by a flood at Ala-Ife road, in Uli Community, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, following a 48hours torrential rainfall in the area.
A trending video of the incident showed that the road is now a death-trap which requires urgent government intervention to avert further flood and erosion devastations in the community.
The male voice in the video revealed that the people living along Ala-Ife road have been suffering for years such that vehicles can no longer access the road even though they have written several letters to the Ihiala Local Government Authority for urgent remedial actions.
He revealed that a 48-hour heavy downpour in the area resulted in the loss of two children who were swept away by a ravaging flood due to the lack of drainage channels on both sides of the road.
According to the speaker, children do not go to school whenever it rained since the road becomes completely impassable on such occasions.
He appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to come to the aid of Ihiala Local Government Area especially those living along Ala-Ife road because they are completely helpless.
The Chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Anayochukwu Charles Ojiakor, who is also an indigene of Uli community, could not be reached to speak on the situation as his number could not be reached.
