Governor Mutfwang
The community leader in Hoss community of Riyom Local Government of Plateau State, Timothy Dung, has written a letter to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, with pains in his heart that if his people continue to die in silence, there will be no one left to vote in 2027.
Again, Dung also advocates the removal of soldiers from Riyom land of the state as their presence is no longer necessary.
He said, “I write to you as a brother and as a concerned citizen of Plateau State, with a heart broken by the events that unfolded in the early hours of today. Our people in Jebu community, Tahoss Ward, Riyom LGA, were brutally attacked by Fulani herdsmen, and more than 23 lives were lost, innocent lives that should have been protected under the watch of the Nigerian Army deployed to our land.
“Sir, I am calling on you to relay our pains and fears to His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The truth must be told: the current presence of Army soldiers in Berom land, particularly those stationed at Sector 6 in Makera (Hoss), Riyom LGA, has become a threat rather than a source of safety.
“It is our strong belief that these soldiers have been compromised, and instead of protecting us, they are enabling the enemies to continue their genocidal attacks on our communities.
“We voted overwhelmingly for Governor Mutfwang in 2023, believing he would restore peace, return displaced persons to their ancestral lands, and stand firmly against the forces threatening our existence. But the reality today is painful and demoralising. While our people are being slaughtered, the very security agents who should protect us are silent, inactive, or, worst of all, complicit.
“Hon. Gyang, this is no longer a time for political caution. War has been declared on the Berom nation. We are not dealing with isolated attacks; we are witnessing a coordinated extermination campaign against our people.
“The attackers are not ghosts. They live in identifiable locations: Mahanga, Fass, and Bangai. Yet, no action is taken to stop them. Our people are killed, our women raped, our farms destroyed right under the watch of the Nigerian military.
“We demand that the soldiers be withdrawn from our communities and returned to their barracks. If peace must return, it will not happen under the current military presence, which has brought more harm than good. Our youth are capable of defending our land once these obstructive forces are removed.
“Governor Mutfwang must take this bold message to the President. As the Chief Security Officer of the State, he has the duty to speak for us. We know the security architecture is under federal control, but our Governor must rise to the occasion and tell the presidency the truth about what is happening.” (The Guardian)
