By AHMED KAIGAMA
A senior citizen, Alhaji Ahmed Iliyasu, has urged politcal leaders to prioritise justice, fairness and integrity to enable them to provide quality leadership in the country.
He stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Bauchi.
Iliyasu, a former Commissioner, Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), said the call was imperative to encourage good governance at all levels in the country.
He stressed the need for the leaders to uphold honesty, trust and impartiality, to ensure they didn’t betray public trust.
The octogenarian, who reflected on the importance of transparency in leadership, enjoined those in position of authority to act in the best interest of their constituents, as Nigeria’s future depends on credible leadership.
“Politicians should follow the examples of our respected leaders and founding fathers for their selfless service to the people.
“It is good to shun greed and self-centeredness in leadership, and return to the values anchored on honesty and sincerity.
“There is too much self-interest and greed in politics today. We must go back to the values of our founding fathers, who led with integrity and humility.
“Nigeria needs trustworthy and visionary leaders,” he said.
Iliyasu further urged the electorate to demand better leadership, and support candidates who demonstrated genuine commitment to the development of the country. (NAN)
