Ghana High Commission staff dies after suspected abduction in Abuja

Late Miss Freda Arnong

Miss Freda Arnong, a staff member of the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, has died after reportedly being abducted and assaulted under suspicious circumstances while on her way to Transcorp Junction in the Federal Capital Territory.

Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident occurred on July 1, 2025, at about 7:00 p.m., when the victim boarded a taxi already occupied by four unidentified men.

Sources close to the Ghanaian mission said the vehicle diverted from the agreed route, and the victim was later found in critical condition along Airport Road by a good Samaritan, who rushed her to the National Hospital, Abuja.

The sources said that a good Samaritan found the victim and rushed her to the National Hospital, Abuja, for medical treatment. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save her, on July 7 at about 1:52 p.m., the victim was confirmed dead as a result of injuries sustained during the attack.

The remains of the late diplomat have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

It was further gathered that inquiries into the incident have commenced by the detectives from the FCT command’s Criminal Investigation Department and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the assailants

The diplomatic community in Abuja has expressed concern over the incident and is closely monitoring developments.

Miss Arnong was described by colleagues as dedicated and compassionate, and her death has left staff at the High Commission and her loved ones deeply shaken. (Zagazola)
