Adamu Maina Waziri, former Minister of Police Affairs
Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2003 and 2007 governorship elections in Yobe State, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Waziri, a former Minister of Police Affairs and PDP Board of Trustees member, formally resigned from the PDP on Monday in Potiskum LGA of the State, when he submitted his resignation letter to the Ward Chairman at the Dogotubo Ward Centre in Potiskum.
He cited that the PDP’s “current leadership and direction as inconsistent with a major political party,” adding that the party “has lost its moral standing as the primary opposition bastion.”
Waziri described as ironic the PDP’s founding mission in 1998 to combat non-democratic rule, given its present condition.
The former minister emphasized his decision was driven by national interest and a desire to “recreate democracy, restore good governance, and enable Nigerians to live in peace and prosperity.”
He promised to mobilise his political associates to join ADC, calling on others to join in a movement to “restore democratic hope in the country.
The defection coincided with an ADC zonal meeting in Potiskum town, attended by interim executives from state, zonal, local government, and ward levels.
Speaking at the zonal meeting, the State Party Chairman, ADC, Hon. Umaru Kalli, expressed confidence that the ADC could “wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 and return Nigeria to the path of economic recovery.”
Party leaders used the occasion to urge youth, women, and the elderly to join the ADC to move the country forward. (Daily Trust)
