Magnus Abe’s team alleges assassination plot, hits out at Rivers PDP

The media committee of Senator Magnus Abe campaign organisation says its attention has been drawn to comments by the chairman of PDP, Rivers State chapter, Mr. Felix Obuah, on the size of security details attached to Senator Abe.

“Ordinarily, we would have ignored his verbal diarrhoea as coming from somebody lacking intellectual acumen and a product of a sick party that catapulted him to the position of a state party chairman, but his persistent hammering on the security details of Senator Abe gives cause for concern.

“That was not the first time he had commented bitterly on what he perceived to be adequate security for Senator Abe. He had done that during the first legislative re-run election campaign.

This time around he is peeved, frustrated and disappointed that his hidden agenda did not work because of the presence of competent police operatives that beefed up security around Senator Abe.

“This is coming at the heels of insecurity in the state of which Rivers people have fingered the PDP led by Obuah as responsible. Besides, Obuah had never been a democrat and his approach to politics had been of intimidation. Today, Omoku lies desolate because of his style of politics, where only those killed by the so called cultists were only APC members.

“Inasmuch as the allegation that Senator Abe had hundreds of Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) operatives and soldiers is false and over-exaggerated, the police reserve the right to beef up security on any citizen depending on the extent of security threat.

“We state unequivocally that recently there have been security threats on Senator Abe more than ever. His house at Bori was destroyed with dynamite. During the rerun election, his residence was attacked by hoodlums. Subsequently, there had been cases of hoodlums attacking and assassinating some of his supporters in the Rivers South East Senatorial District. In addition, there had been attempts to malign him by inciting Ogoni people against him as being responsible for the military operation in Yeghe. PDP also organised a street march with a coffin labeled ‘Abe is dead’.

“Considering all these, we make bold to state that there is nothing wrong if the police beef up Abe’s security.

“It is pertinent that we ask, why does Mr. Obuah want Abe stripped of his security details? There is no election going on now that one would say Senator Abe was intimidating voters. Rivers people are not suffering from amnesia. They could easily recall that during 2015 election that Obuah as the PDP party chairman including other PDP big wigs and candidates were parading around with military escorts.

“We see the comments of Mr. Obuah as that of a person whose wicked plot on Senator Abe has been botched by the presence of crack police operatives, hence the need for his crying foul. We also warn the likes of Obuah that Ogoni people would not take it lightly if any harm befalls their illustrious son.”

The team called on police authorities and Rivers people to ignore the comments of Mr. Obuah and “rather beam their search lights on him to unravel his criminal plot against Senator Abe.”
