Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 60 insurgents in a fierce overnight encounter in the Bita area of Borno State.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement on Friday, described the operation as “decisive and coordinated”.
It said the attack started around 1:09 am on Friday when the insurgents assaulted troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade, noting that a land and air assault obliterated the terrorists.
“In a decisive and coordinated operation, gallant troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched a simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, Borno State, in the early hours of today,” the statement posted on the Nigerian Army X handle read. “The intense battle resulted in the neutralization of at least 60 terrorists.”
Similarly, the Nigerian Air Force said its Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai recorded a major operational success against Boko Haram terrorists.
NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said scores of insurgents were killed, although he did not give a specific figure.
“In the early hours of today, 30 May 2025, NAF combat aircraft carried out precision airstrikes on fleeing terrorists in Bita, Borno State, neutralising scores of insurgents in what has been described as one of the most decisive blows against the group in recent times,” the statement read.
“The highly coordinated operation, executed under the cover of darkness, represents a major leap in ongoing efforts to dismantle the operational capabilities of terrorist elements undermining national security in the North East. Ground forces have since commenced clearance and exploitation operations to consolidate on the gains achieved from the successful air strikes.
“The NAF wishes to reassure Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to defending the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting law-abiding citizens. All necessary measures are being taken to ensure that terrorist elements have no safe haven anywhere within the country.” (CHANNELS)
