Ahead of the conclusion of the rerun election in Rivers State, unknown gunmen in the early hours of Friday razed down the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area of the state.
Sources who spoke on Saturday from the area of incident said that at about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, they heard a very loud sound, suspected to be dynamite from the INEC office, stressing that at the time of the incident no security presence was seen and no life was lost.
Our correspondent reports that Khana is one of the local government areas of the state which will be participating in the rescheduled legislative rerun election and has also had two serious attacks in less than one year.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Omoni Nnamdi, has confirmed the incident.
According to Nnamdi, “There was a reported case of fire outbreak at the INEC Office in Bori. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
