A war has broken out between Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and his immediate past predecessor, Solomon Arase.
Idris lit the fire when he alleged during an interview with newsmen that Arase went away with 24 police vehicles while the seven Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, who retired alongside him, carted away between seven and eight cars each.
Idris disclosed that he had written Arase to return the cars, which he said included two official bullet-proof BMW 7 series cars, adding that the retired police chief and his DIGs had yet to return the vehicles.
The Acting IGP further disclosed that a special investigation team was already looking at the records of police vehicle purchases in the last three years as well as how they were distributed.
But reacting sharply to the reports, Arase dismissed the allegations with a wave of the hand. He insisted that he did not go away with any car, as he was not ready to open a car shop.
The Ex-IGP advised his successor to concentrate on security issues and stop chasing shadows.
