By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
Following the attack of a Vigilante office in Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State by gunmen on Friday, April 25, 2025, the state Police Command has announced its taken control of the scene.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the attack occurred late on Friday, when armed hoodlums attempted to force their way into the facility.
He said that the resistance of the security operatives on ground led to a gun duel which resulted to the burning of four patrol vehicles and two motorcycles.
Though reports have it that one person died during the attack, Ikenga stated that no life was lost during the incident.
According to him, following the attack, calm has been restored in the area as the Joint Security Force intensifies its offensive operations to flush out criminal elements from the locality.
The Command further assured that the situation is being closely monitored and promised to provide updates as further developments unfold.
It would be recalled that this is not the first time gunmen are attacking security office in Anambra State, as some security facilities in Nnewi South and other parts of the state had experienced attacks of different intensity from the gunmen in the past.
In November 2024, gunmen also attacked operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group along the Amesi-Uga Road in Aguata Local Government Area, which resulted in one vigilante member sustaining injuries, while their operational vehicle was also set ablaze.
