Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, says it has rusticated 34 students of the College of Medicine of the institution for two to four semesters over examination malpractice.
The management said the students were found guilty by Mobile Students Disciplinary Committee (college of medicine) of involving in various examination malpractices during the 2022/2023 academic sessions.
The university authorities also disclosed that six other students were exonerated from the allegations levelled against them, two were advised to be of good behaviour, while one was cautioned.
The Institution in its news bulletin signed by F.O Omoigui, Deputy Registrar (Senate) for Acting Registrar, and Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR), Information and Public Relations, said the affected students were in 300 and 500 levels.
According to the statement, the rustication of the students follows a pre-report of the Mobile Students Disciplinary Committee (College of Medicine), 2022/2023 session set up to investigate the issue.
“This is to inform you that the university management, after due consideration of the reports submitted by the Mobile Disciplinary Committee (College of Medicine), has approved the penalties recommended for the offences committed by the following students during the 2022/2023 session.
“The affected students are in the Departments of Hematology, Histopathology, Medical Microbiology, Medicine, Physiology, Chemical Pathology, Medicine and Surgery, and FMLS.”
It said 21 students were rusticated for two semesters and 13 rusticated for four semesters, effective from the 2022/2023 academic sessions.
It added that 20 of the students in 500 level were rusticated, out of which 12 were rusticated for two semesters and eight for four semesters.
The rusticated students were accused of using written material brought from outside during examination HAE 503, found with part of the university answer booklet containing answers related to the examination.
They were also accused of using written material related to the examination and impersonating another student during the 401 examinations, among others. (Daily Trust)
