EU completes reconstruction of multi-million naira health centre in Anambra

The European Union Support Immunisation Governance in Nigeria (EU-SIGN) has in its bid to bring health care delivery closer to the inhabitants of rural areas completed the reconstruction of a multi-million naira Nkpologwu Health Center in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The Nkpologwu Primary Health Care Center is one of the 24 similar projects being executed by EU-SIGN in 23 states of the country and the Federal Capital under the four-year implementation programme that would terminate in 2018.

Speaking at the commissioning of the project, the state technical assistant of EU-SIGN, Dr. Romanus Nriagu said the Nkpologwu project was the first works contract to be completed in the country due to the support received from the stakeholders, including the state government.

He called on the people to justify the selection of their community for the execution of the project among the 177 communities in the state by patronising the Health Care Center.

According to him, increased patronage of the center would be an indication that the community really appreciated the efforts of EU-SIGN to provide them with quality health care and appealed to the chairman of the local government to pay special attention to Primary Health Care by allocating adequate resources to the health center.

Nriagu also hailed the contractor that handled the project for speedy completion of the work as well as meeting the required standard.

On her part, the executive secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Chioma Ezzenyimulu observed that with the completion of the project, the hardship faced by the people in their quest to obtain quality health care has been laid to rest.

She commended EU-SIGN for including Anambra as one of the 23 benefiting states for the project.

Ezzenyimulu further expressed delight that the Nkpologwu project was the first to be completed in the country, saying that it was an indication of the seriousness the state government attached to primary health care.
