The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced its readiness for the successful execution of the 2025 Hajj operations, with airlifts of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia scheduled to commence on May 9, 2025.
This development was disclosed on Tuesday following a high-level briefing by NAHCON officials to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, NAHCON’s Commissioner for Operations, Inspectorate & Licensing, Prince Anofi Elegushi, affirmed that comprehensive arrangements have been finalized to ensure a hitch-free pilgrimage experience.
“We have secured all necessary accommodation in Mecca, Medina, and other designated locations,” Elegushi said. “Adequate bed spaces have been booked and paid for, and feeding logistics are in place. The inaugural flight to Medina is scheduled for May 9, and we aim to complete outbound airlifts by May 24. Return flights will begin on June 13 and conclude by July 2.”
Prince Elegushi further reassured the public of NAHCON’s preparedness, noting that over 40,000 pilgrims, including state delegates and approximately 13,000 private tour operator clients, are expected to participate in this year’s pilgrimage.
In his remarks, NAHCON Chairman, Professor Saleh Abdullahi Usman, stated that the Vice President expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness during the briefing.
Meanwhile, in response to concerns raised by tour operators regarding the VIP Tent A arrangements, NAHCON Secretary Dr. Mustafa Aaji has been tasked with addressing and resolving the issue.
Vice President Shettima, while commending the Commission’s efforts, urged them to remain vigilant and ensure a seamless Hajj operation.
“All necessary measures must be taken to guarantee the success of the 2025 Hajj. We owe it to all Nigerians and our pilgrims to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience,” the Vice President emphasized.
The upcoming Hajj pilgrimage, one of the largest annual religious gatherings in the world, is a pivotal event for Nigeria’s Muslim community, and NAHCON’s proactive steps aim to deliver an efficient and spiritually uplifting journey for all pilgrims.
