Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has backed former Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd)’s call for self-defence amid the recent spate of killings in Plateau, Benue and other northern states.

Danjuma renewed his earlier call for self-defence at a public event in Takum, Taraba State over the weekend.

“It is now very clear that the government alone cannot protect us. We must stand up and defend ourselves, our families, and our lands before these criminals overrun the entire country,” the octogenarian stated.

However, the Governor of Jigawa, Umar Namadi criticised Danjuma’s call for self-defence during an appearance on Channels TV on Monday, warning it was a “recipe for anarchy”.

But in an X post on Tuesday, Sani backed the ex-minister, saying communities should not fold their arms and allow themselves be slaughtered.

“Self Defence; TY Danjuma only repeated what many have earlier said.

“People shouldn’t just fold their arms and be slaughtered by bandits.

“What is then the meaning of the popular phrase that ‘security is a collective responsibility’?” Sani queried. (Daily Sun)
