Eselu of Ise Oba Ebenezer Akintunde Akinyemi
A first class monarch in Ogun State, the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, Oba Ebenezer Akintunde Akinyemi, on Monday sent an open letter to President Bola Tinubu over the ceaseless killings in Plateau, Benue and other parts of the country, urging him to consider hiring foreign mercenaries in order to wipe out terrorists from Nigeria.
In the letter, titled, ?An Open Letter to His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria on the Incessant Killings in Plateau State and Some Northern States in Nigeria,? Eselu lamented that human lives are no longer valued in some parts of our country despite the frantic efforts the government has been making to secure all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
Oba Akinyemi lamented that terrorism, banditry, and killings had not only claimed thousands of innocent lives but also displaced entire communities from their ancestral lands, particularly in Plateau and Benue States.
He condemned what he described as ?marauding criminals? whom he said, have become emboldened over the years despite military investments and security reforms.
He warned that if Tinubu failed to adopt an aggressive and unconventional approach, including the engagement of mercenaries, Nigeria may continue to suffer the economic and political fallout of insecurity.
Oba Akinyemi alleged that insecurity has now become a weapon in the hands of politicians, saying opposition parties are plotting to unseat Tinubu in 2027 using insecurity as campaign strategy.
?Sadly, insecurity has now become a weapon in the hands of politicians. This same insecurity was used to oust President Jonathan in 2015.
?The Buhari Government who succeeded him promised to end the insecurity in some months, but failed woefully. In fact, Buhari Government?s abysmal failure in office almost made it difficult for his party?s Presidential Candidate then (Asiwaju Bola Ahmend Tinubu) to win the 2023 election. Thank God that destiny paved the way for you and you are now the number one citizen of Nigeria.
?It is crystal clear now that the oppositions in the country are now planning to oust Your Excellency in 2027, using the same insecurity as a campaign strategy,? he said.
The monarch also raised concerns about ethnic imbalance in military recruitment and alleged complicity within the security architecture.
He accused some personnel of lacking motivation and suggested that ethnic affiliations were influencing the reluctance of some northern soldiers to confront insurgents who may be their kinsmen.
?The dogs that some people have in their homes are well fed even more than our security men. Can we really end insecurity with this approach? My answer is NO!?, he said.
He called on Tinubu to initiate a debate in the National Assembly on the possible deployment of foreign mercenaries to neutralize terrorists.
He insisted that such action was necessary if Nigeria truly desired peace and stability.
?We cannot be complaining about the problems and also be complaining about the solutions.
?If our security agencies cannot stop this calamity for three administrations, there is no point putting fresh soup in the old pot,? he said. (Daily Trust)
