Wike, FCT Minister
Members of the Union of Fishermen and Seafood Dealers (UFSD) in the country have called on the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to allocate lands which will serve as urban agriculture and multipurpose centres.
The members of the Union made the appeal in a letter addressed to the Minister and made available to Journalists in Kaduna on Saturday.
National President of UFSD, Alhaji Sani Usman Rilwanu, revealed that the body has applied for a parcel of land around the FCT, through the Federal Capital Land Administration (AGIS), which was acknowledged with reference No MISC 150735 after which a reminder was submitted and acknowledged on December 16th 2024.
?In that letter, we informed the Minister of FCT of another letter we sent to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security with the same request but replied and directed us to send our request to the FCT Minister, in a letter to us, reference No ALR/1809/Vol. 1,?Rilwanu said.
Rilwanu lamented that nothing has been done to address the issue despite sending another letter to the office of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to fast-track the letter addressed to the FCT minister.
?We are still craving the indulgence of the Honourable Minister Wike to consider our request, which is in tandem with President Tinubu?s Renewed Hope Agenda in revamping the economy, generating jobs and enhancing the value chain in the fisheries and seafood sector,? he pleaded.
The body, In its first letter dated May 24th, 2024, informed the minister that UFSD operates in collaboration with the Institute of Fisheries, Boston, United States of America, as well as having a good working relationship with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
