The Osun State Police Command has nabbed a school proprietor, Rev. Olatunde Timothy Oke, and an official of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Olawale Abass, in Osogbo, Osun State capital for alleged illegal sale of government land with fake documents.
The sale of the land beside railway line belonging to NRC was uncovered by the Executive Chairman of the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, who led the team that hinted the police at Dugbe Divisional Police Station, Osogbo on Monday.
Oke is the proprietor of Rocks Model Nursery and Primary School located around Ajibade Street, off Olorunda Local Government Secretariat area of Osogbo, while Abass is on the staff of NRC. Both men have been volunteering information to the police.
A source close to the police also revealed that the suspects had damaged the farm crops worth about N180,000 on the said land. It was gathered that the school proprietor disclosed to the police that the land beside railway line was leased to him by NRC to construct a new building for the school in order to secure government approval of the school.
Sulaiman commended the Dugbe Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sunday Ominijo, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), for his prompt action on the matter. He described Ominijo as a pride of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), stating that his group had concluded arrangement to write a strongly-worded petition to the appropriate authorities, informing them of the development.
