Vice President Shettima at the wedding ceremony
Vice President Kashim Shettima, yesterday in Bauchi, gave out Khadija Mohammed Abubakar, the daughter of former Bauchi State governor, Barrister Mohammed Abubakar (SAN), in marriage to Muhammad Sadiq Wanka.
The wedding was held at the palace of the Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, and attended by dignitaries from across the country.
The emir conferred the traditional title of first ‘Makama Babba of Bauchi’ on the former governor in a ceremony also attended by the vice president as special guest.
The groom’s Waliy, Alhaji Yusuf Yakubu Wanka, the Cigarin Bauchi, received the bride for a dowry of N300,000 from the bride’s representative, Kashim Shettima.
The Chief Imam of Bauchi, Sheikh Bala Ahmed Baban-Inna, presided over the wedding attended by dignitaries including the chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya.
Governor Bala Muhammad said the former governor deserved the traditional title of Makama Babba in the Bauchi Emirate Council.
He commended Vice President Shettima for making out time to attend both ceremonies.
He expressed confidence that the new Makama Babba would fulfill the responsibilities of his title with honour and remain a valuable asset to the Bauchi Emirate Council.
He also lauded the Emir of Bauchi for turbaning the former governor and recognising his contributions to the state.
He further assured that Muhammad Abubakar would uphold the responsibilities of the title with dignity and work diligently for the continued development of the emirate.
While appreciating the guests, Governor Bala Mohammed noted that their presence not only added colour and prestige to the wedding but also reflected the spirit of unity, respect and friendship. (Saturday Independent)
