The Imo State Police Command has uncovered plot by some politicians in the state to disrupt the forthcoming Imo North Senatorial and House of Assembly re-run elections scheduled to hold on 23rd of July, 2016.
“Intelligence report at the disposal of the Command reveals that some politicians in the state are recruiting cultists and thugs from within and outside the state and are holding nocturnal meetings in hotels and other secret places with intent to scuttle the peaceful conduct of the election,” the Command said in a statement issued in on Tuesday in Owerri by its Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
The Command warned politicians in the state to desist from such acts capable of disrupting the peaceful election process in the state, insisting that it will not hesitate to deal with any politician(s) involved in any criminal act. Parents and guardians were also advised not to allow their children or wards to be used as tools by politicians.
“Any person(s) found engaging in acts of violence before, during and after the election will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement said.
