Police confirm 22 killed in herdsmen attack on Benue communities

Spokesperson of the Benue state police command, Moses Yamu, has said 22 deaths were recorded in the clash between herdsmen and residents in Ukum and Logo communities in the state.

While speaking to journalists on Tuesday, he refuted claims by residents that 81 people were killed in the renewed attacks by herdsmen.

“We recorded about 11 deaths in Ukum and another 11 in Logo based on our own records. Since the attacks, our crack team has been deployed and are stationed in the affected areas. There is aggressive patrol in those areas,” he said.

The traditional ruler of Logo council area, Jimmy Meeme blamed the sustained attacks on his people by the herdsmen on territorial occupation campaign.

Over the past few months, suspected herdsmen have killed hundreds of Nigerians in Benue, Enugu and Plateau.

President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered an investigation into the clashes between herdsmen and indigenes of communities in Benue State.

He also ordered security agencies to crack down on rampaging herdsmen. (TV360Nigeria)
