By DORCAS ELUSOGBON
A 40-year-old man, Femi Oyatokun, on Monday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a Point Of Sale (POS) operator to the tune of N64,000.
The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 6 in Ile-Ife.
He said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N64,000 from a POS operator, one Mr Olalere Seyi.
According to him, the defendant pretended to have transferred the sum of N64,000 into a Fidelity Bank account number 6327584217, belonging to one Michael Sunday.
He said that the money was transferred through the complainant’s POS machine, however, the complainant did not receive the balance in his own account.
The prosecutor said the defendant stole the sum of N64,000 through a POS money transfer.
He stated that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Abosede Sarumi, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Sarumi said that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She also held that one of the sureties must be a property owner and the sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment to the state government.
The magistrate ordered that the defendant’s and sureties’ addresses be verified by the prosecutor and adjourned until May 28 for hearing. (NAN)
