The Kaduna State Government on Tuesday visited Magume community flood victims in Zaria city just as it condoled the family that lost a wife and three children in the incident.

Speaking at Emir of Zazzau’s palace after the inspection of flood affected areas, the Deputy Governor of the state Arch. Bala Yusuf Bantex, said the ministry of works will evaluate the collapsed bridge and drainages for further action.

The Deputy Governor who was accompanied by top government officials added that, State Emergency Agency (SEMA) will provide immediate relief materials to the victim and also bring assessment report to avert future occurrence.

According to the Deputy Governor, “We are here to inspect the level of damage caused by this flood and also condole with the family who lost loved ones. We sympathise with the victims. We didn’t expect this, but the situation on ground indicates that such will happen. We are going to put a good plan. We also discovered the collapsed bridge. The ministry of works will come and do evaluation for further action. SEMA will also provide relief materials to cushion the hardship faced by the victims,” he said.

On his part, the Emir of Zazzau, Dr. Shehu Idris, commended Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s government for acting promptly to the flood affected areas.

The emir while advising government to set up committee to identify genuine victims for relief materials called on the present government to construct good drainages to minimise flood.

Narrating how the flood incident occurred which resulted to the death of four, one of the relatives of bereaved family, Abdulkadir Abubakar, said the flood started Sunday night. “We thank Kaduna State Government for coming to condole us and see the situation; it means this government is for the people. We lost our wife and her three children but her husband survived. Others have minor injuries,” he said.
