He said that “We ascertained the number of those that survived it. I think, let me not give you a wrong number, I think there are in the region of 26. And they came from different local governments, but mostly from the five local governments already mentioned.”
According to the Deputy Governor “the survivors suffered serious losses. So all of it has been documented, and we have submitted same to the Edo state government through His Excellency, the governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.”
He said “I presented it to him yesterday, because we set up a committee here that did a verification exercise to establish for sure the true identity of those who lost their lives and their nest of kin.”
The Deputy Governor further stated that “Senator Monday Okpebholo has assured us that there are going to be a compensation for those who lost their lives, and those who lost their belongings, because you know they are coming back from Port Harcourt. They have their items, various categories in the vehicle, and the whole of it was burnt.”
Gwarzo, who expressed happiness with the cordial relationship between the host and the Guest Communities, declared that, “Edo state from my assessment is very safe for Northerners.”
He stressed “from what I have seen, from the reception we had, and looking at their faces, their expressions, it tells you that they are very much comfortable, very much at home, feeling very safe.”
Speaking further, he said: “You can imagine the mammoth crowd that received us, one would think that we are in Kano, that it is an occasion in Kano, a Kwankwasiyya occasion. The massive crowd that was there, 90 percent of them are people from the northern part of the country.
