Dilapidated Udo road
By CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE and AMAKA ILOANYA
The Unity Landlords Association at Umusiome-Nkpor, Anambra State, has cried out to the Idemili North LGA Chairman, Mr. Stanley Nkwoka, for help regarding the dilapidated Udo trunk road, which is an important artery that links Nkpor to neighbouring towns.
The bad trunk road, which bisects Ogbe-etiti, Umusiome-Nkpor, is plied by drivers, who do make detour during rush hours, when the major roads are congested with crawling traffic.
However, owing to the deplorable state of the road, which makes it not motorable, residents of the area park their vehicles outside their residential area and trek to their houses.
And they are afraid that the condition of the road would worsen when the rainy season sets in, thereby compounding their plight.
Officials of the Unity Landlord Association, Umusiome-Nkpor had a media chat with journalists on April 8, 2025 at Nkpor after an inspection of the dilapidated road.
The legal adviser of the Landlord Association, Barr. Ikem Offordile, said that the road has economic importance for Anambra state because it is plied by commercial bus drivers for the conveyance of people and goods to markets.
“This road plays a great role in increasing the trade volume in Anambra State, which boosts our state’s internally generated revenue,” Offordile said.
So he begged the Idemili North Mayor, Mr. Stanley Nkwoka, to come to their aid and repair the road while applauding him for his good work, so far.
And the secretary of the Landlord group, Celestine Ebelechukwu Maduekwe, expressed the fear that if the road was not repaired, urgently, its condition would deteriorate further.
He said that the daily movement of more than five thousand people who live in the area is hampered by the bad state of the road.
He urged Mr. Nkwoka to convey their cries for help to Gov. Soludo while stating that the people of Ogbe-etiti, Umusiome-Nkpor are majorly APGA faithful, who exercise their franchise, without fail, during each periodic election.
More so, the Public Relations Officer of the Landlord Association, Mr. Nathaniel Anuluo, said that they had been pooling their resources to do palliative work on the bad road. But it did not make the road motorable.
“Our efforts at doing palliative work on the road has not made it passable. That is why we are calling on government to repair the road for us.
“The road is an important artery that helps in the facilitation of the carrying out of commercial activities in the state,” Anuluo said.
And in his own reaction, the patron of the Landlord Association, Mr. Innocent Arinzechukwu, urged Mr Nkwoka to convey their plea for help to Gov. Soludo who he said is deserving of third term in office based on his pragmatic approach to leadership matters.
