Late elder statesman, Gen SO Ogbemudia
The children of Brigadier General Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, late elder statesman, politician, erstwhile military governor of defunct Midwestern State and civilian governor of equally defunct Bendel State have disowned a man purported to be one of his sons. They have consequently demanded a retraction of a publication in that regard as well as an apology.
The Executors of the Ogbemudia Estate made the demands in a letter dated April 3, 2024 and addressed to the Editor of Midwest Herald, under the title, Re: “Retraction of post titled, “Late Ogbemudia’s Son Writes IBB: "Your Book Didn't Expose MKO’s Dark Secrets My Dad Told Me Led to Army Annulling June 12”.
The children said that the article, attributed to a man named Dr. Nelson Ogbemudia, contains egregious inaccuracies that have severely misrepresented the S. O. Ogbemudia family and maligned the legacy of their late father, Gen. S.O Ogbemudia.
They said that said even more disturbing was the fact that the publication identified Dr. Nelson Ogbemudia as their father’s son. They stressed that “this person is not, and has never been, a member of Gen. S. O. Ogbemudia’s family.” Below is the full text of the letter:
To the Editor of Midwest Herald,
Re: Retraction of post titled “Late Ogbemudia’s Son Writes IBB: "Your Book Didn't Expose MKO’s Dark Secrets My Dad Told Me Led to Army Annulling June 12,” dated [2 April 2025] and public apology for said false post
We, the children of Late Gen. Dr. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia write to express our outrage and deep concern over the false and misleading article published on your website titled “Late Ogbemudia’s Son Writes IBB: "Your Book Didn't Expose MKO’s Dark Secrets My Dad Told Me Led to Army Annulling June 12,” dated [2 April 2025]. The article, attributed to a man named [Dr Nelson Ogbemudia], contains egregious inaccuracies that have severely misrepresented our family and maligned the legacy of our late father, [Gen. Dr. S.O Ogbemudia].
The article contains false information. Even more disturbingly, your publication identified Dr. Nelson Ogbemudia as our father’s son. This person is not, and has never been, a member of Gen. Dr. S.O. Ogbemudia’s family. We are appalled that your editorial process failed to verify this man’s identity before publishing such defamatory and misleading content.
Whether this misrepresentation was a result of intentional deceit on the part of the so-called author or a sensationalized assumption by your editorial team, the result is the same—serious harm to our family’s name and reputation. Such reckless journalism is unacceptable and irresponsible.
We demand that The News Giant immediately issue a prominent retraction and correction, explicitly clarifying that the individual in question is not related to our father, Gen. Dr S.O Ogbemudia, or our family. No such correspondence or conversation was had by any member of the Gen. Dr. S.O Ogbemudia family with the alleged imposter and or your news publication, Additionally, we expect a formal apology to be printed, acknowledging the harm caused by this false claim as this false and erroneous publication to the general public has caused our family stress and would be in itself libelous in its entirety.
Should you fail to promptly address this matter, within 72 hrs (seventy two hours) we will have no choice but to seek legal recourse to protect our family’s good name, reputation and legacy.
Sincerely,
Executors Ogbemudia Estate.
