The Association of Resident Doctors at David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu, Ebonyi State, has threatened to suspend services at the hospital if the ongoing tension persists.
Tension has been pervading the hospital since last week when the community protested against the management of the health institution over what they described as gross mismanagement, systemic abuse, leadership failures, and blatant disregard for the host community, and demanded the sack of the management.
The workers of the hospital staged their own protest a day after the community protested against the management, in solidarity with the management of the hospital, leading to tension in the health institution.
The doctors of the hospital threatened to suspend services if the tension escalates.
The decision was made during an emergency meeting held at the weekend and contained in a communiqu? signed by the Association?s President, Dr Peace Ebisike, and Secretary, Mathew Nwachukwu.
The doctors are concerned about the negative impact of the recent unrest on their members and the quality of service delivery to patients.
They expressed regret that the situation has hindered effective patient management, ultimately defeating the purpose of establishing DUFUTH.
The Association called on the relevant authorities and stakeholders to resolve their differences amicably and restore peace to the hospital as soon as possible.
The doctors reaffirmed their support for the hospital?s management, led by Professor Uzoma Agwu, in seeking the progress of the hospital. (Sunday Sun)
