Pastor Dr Yohanna Buru, General Overseer of the Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry,
By GARBA MUHAMMAD, Kaduna
Prominent Christian scholars from northern Nigeria have strongly condemned the gruesome killing of 16 travelers in Edo State, describing it as a tragic act of mob injustice.
The victims, mostly Hausa hunters traveling to Kano for the Sallah celebrations, were reportedly intercepted and lynched by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes in Uromi, Edo State, after being falsely accused of criminal activity.
The shocking Incident has sparked widespread condemnation both online and offline. Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, General Overseer of the Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry in Kaduna, led the chorus of outrage, calling for a full and impartial investigation into the killings.
?The loss of these innocent lives has deeply shaken the nation. We must ensure justice is served to prevent such tragedies in the future,? Pastor Buru stated. He prayed for the victims and urged authorities to take swift action against those responsible.
As a representative of the Human Rights Agency under the United Nations in Nigeria, Pastor Buru emphasized the need for legal redress rather than retaliation. He called on all ethnic and religious communities to reject mob justice and embrace peaceful conflict resolution.
?The mob attack was a devastating example of how misinformation and fear can lead to senseless violence,? he said. ?We urge the Hausa community to remain calm and seek justice through lawful means.?
Pastor George John, another Christian leader, also condemned the killings and urged Nigerians to rise above religious and ethnic divisions.
?This is a time for reflection and unity,? he said. ?Muslim and Christian scholars should dedicate the remaining days of Ramadan and Lent to praying for peace and healing in our nation.?
Both faith leaders called on security agencies to swiftly arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack. They also reminded Nigerians of their shared humanity, urging communities to work together in building a peaceful and just society.
?We are all one family under God,? Pastor Buru said. ?This tragedy must serve as a wake-up call to end mob violence and uphold the rule of law.?
As the nation mourns the victims, there is a growing demand for accountability to prevent future occurrences of such brutal injustices.
