Many Nigerians who migrated to Libya in the hope for a better life are now facing great danger as allegations have emerged that some of them are being killed for their organs.
A report by The Times of London said that the same danger is being faced by other African migrants in the North African country, many of whom became stranded after their hope of connecting Europe from Libya became dashed.
“African migrants who cannot pay for their passage to Europe are being sold for $15,000 to Egyptians who harvest their organs,” the report published yesterday quoted a former trafficker as saying.
The report further quoted the informant, Nouredin Atta, an Eritrean people smuggler who became an informant after he was arrested by Italian police in 2014, as saying that the Egyptians took the organs away in thermal pouches.
It disclosed that Mr Atta provided information that led to 23 arrests on Monday and the seizure of €526,000 from a perfume shop in Rome that was being used as a front by traffickers.
