The Minister of Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawande, has emphasised that the success of the ministry will be measured by how effectively it reduces unemployment.

He made this statement in Abuja on Tuesday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Olawande said that the two ministries were collaborating to tackle the pressing issue of unemployment in the country.

“Through the Labour Employment and Entrepreneurship Programme (LEEP) and the Nigeria Youth Academy (NIYA) platform, we are setting a new standard for youth empowerment,” he said.

He further explained that the ministries were creating pathways for skill development, job placement, and entrepreneurship growth.

“This partnership is focused on action, integrating vocational training, technology, and mentorship to ensure Nigerian youth are equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s competitive economy,” Olawande added.

The minister noted that these initiatives would not only prepare the youth for available job opportunities but also inspired them to become job creators, driving innovation and economic growth across the nation.

“As we sign this MoU, we reaffirm our collective commitment to reducing unemployment, expanding economic opportunities, and securing a better future for the youth of Nigeria,” Olawande stated.

In her speech, Mrs Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, highlighted that the ministry’s focus was on strengthening Nigeria’s workforce and expanding job opportunities.

“The signing of this MoU marks a significant step toward reducing unemployment in the country.

“Through LEEP and the NIYA platform, we are setting new standards for youth empowerment by creating pathways for skill development, job placement, and entrepreneurship growth,” Onyejeocha said.

She further emphasised that the collaboration would provide workers across various sectors with access to meaningful employment, thus contributing to national growth.

Onyejeocha also reaffirmed that both ministries remained dedicated to advancing employment opportunities, improving working conditions, and fostering a resilient and adaptable workforce in the country. (NAN)
