Nigerian American football player, Moro Ojomo, Wednesday, said his upbringing as a Nigerian and his passion for the country have been the driving forces behind his success.

Ojomo told newsmen upon his arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos aboard a Delta Airlines flight.

Vanguard recalls that on February 9, 2025, Ojomo made history after leading Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl triumph.

His Philadelphia Eagles, which soared to victory, defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX and secured the Eagles’ fifth National Football League, NFL, title.

While addressing newsmen in Lagos, the NFL star told Nigerians not to be deterred from accomplishing their goals.

According to him, there were numerous opportunities from which Nigerians could take advantage.

He said: “I have a drive and motivation that stems from my upbringing as a Nigerian and my passion for this country allows me to excel and Nigeria has helped me excel at the biggest stage.”

On American football, he said: “It is everything when you look at the amount of Africans, specifically Nigerians, that are in American football, it is a lot. The most important thing is giving our youths an opportunity to get into American football, it is a pathway for education, high school and college degrees and it is a pathway to make Nigeria bigger on a worldly view.

“I think about the community, the friends I grew up with, the heritage and my family values of being a Nigerian such as hard work, education, sports. I played a little bit of soccer and basketball but American football was what led me to the most success.”

On his advice to Nigerians, he said: “Just believe you can do anything, I know Nigerians are great and I believe that you should take advantage of opportunities and don’t let anyone deter you.” (Vanguard)
