Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has declared that a six months jail term awaits anybody who buys or sells any item in traffic in the state.
The governor spoke on a programme on TV Continental against the backdrop of the mayhem that was unleashed on BRT buses at Maryland on Wednesday following the killing of a hawker by a moving vehicle.
“Both buyers and sellers in traffic will pay a fine of N90, 000 or face a jail term. Over 49 buses were destroyed and these will cost N139 million to fix,” the Governor lamented.
He stressed that “the law does not support hawking, what we need to do is map out a way out for them.” The governor, who served as a civil servant for 27 years and a financial consultant before running for public office as Governor of Lagos State, has said he is trying his best to give the citizens of Lagos State the best.
The Governor continued by saying: “The role of the local government concerning bad roads can only be done by the taxes we pay, if there are bad roads in your neighbourhood, make sure you visit the local government because it is their duty to fix it using funds from taxes paid.”
