No fewer than 105 officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State are currently undergoing various types of combat training which include rifle handling, stamina building, VIP protection among other security skills.
Disclosing this to Journalists in Awka yesterday, the state Commandant, Mr. Godwin Omoregie said the training was part of the efforts by the unit to enhance the capacity of their operations.
He stressed that the training had become expedient in view of the sensitive task they undertake saying that the sector needed more than sticks and clubs to handle the challenges they face regularly in the hands of vandals.
“We are training our staff because of the nature of security challenges we face in the hands of criminals and vandals and bearing in mind their style of operation, we need for our officers to have good knowledge of how to use weapon.
“The Army is taking them on in the areas of arms handling, shooting tanks while shooting range will come up later in the week in Elele, Rivers State, Omotayo said.
He noted that Anambra State government is in the forefront of the exercise and that has accounted for the effectiveness of the command adding that the training will bring the number of trained officers in the state for the year to 192 as 87 officers had already graduated from the same training in May.
