Cross River state command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said that it had repatriated no fewer than 730 illegal Nigerien, Chadian and Cameroonian immigrants between January and April, this year.
Its Comptroller, Funke Adeuyi, who disclosed this in Calabar, yesterday, said the Command also, within the period under review, refused 39 entries of ECOWAS nationals due to defective travel document and other related offences.
On reported recruitment scam involving the Service, Adeuyi said there was no such thing going on, adding that “none of my officers had been brought to my notice, on the alleged scam, but I am aware that there was an alleged scam which was reported to the police.”
She said: “The alleged fraudster is not an immigration officer. Unfortunately, some people allowed themselves to be duped. People should understand that there is no recruitment going on in the immigration service as we speak. People should be aware of fraudsters and not fall victim.
“I want to use this medium to advise the public not to allow themselves to be duped by these fraudsters. Our recruitment exercise is always free.”
