FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu
The Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA has outlawed the activities of local council revenue collectors who often harass motorists within the city.
Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Olatunji Disu who disclosed this at the end of the FCT Security Council meeting Friday in Abuja, urged residents and the motoring public to report to the police anyone who harasses them on the road in the guise of revenue collection.
Popularly called ?AMAC Boys?, the revenue collectors are spread across the six Area Councils but their activities are more pronounced in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council and in the city centre which falls under the Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC, hence the tag, ?AMAC Boys?.
Addressing Journalists, Disu said; ?On the activities of ?AMAC Boys? levying innocent residents of the Federal Capital Territory, yes, we have gotten that report and as I speak with you, we are planning operations and ensuring that this becomes a thing of the past. Then, we have our numbers in the public domain. Anybody who is harassed anywhere in town, quickly call those numbers for the police to respond to you?.
He said at the security council meeting which was chaired by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, security heads took turns to brief the minister on the successes of the past three weeks, ?especially having to do with the operations on the vandalism of infrastructure, manhole theft, and all the electricity wires being stolen by vandals?.
?The operation has been successful and the Minister was very happy with the outcome. We briefed him that we have gotten to the stage of profiling those that will be taking part in the recognized Panteka.
?At the same time, the Minister was briefed about the clearance operation going on in all areas of our neighboring states bordering the Federal Capital Territory. The military, the civil defense, and the police have been embarking on a lot of clearance, having noticed that these bandits are about to be moving towards the Federal Capital Territory.
?This clearance operation has been going on and it has been very, very successful. It has been contributing to the peace you have been noticing for the past one or two weeks.
?We finally decided that we are going to involve security operatives and other states bordering the Federal Capital Territory in joint meetings, joint collaboration, and joint operations, so that we can jointly have a outlook on how to police our various states. We do not want incidents of a particular state embarking on this clearance operation and the insurgents will be moving towards other areas of the nation.
?And then at the end of the day, it has been concluded that the activities of the task force comprising of all the six agencies will continue. Different tasks have been given to them and we are looking forward to this collaboration which has been very successful?, he added. (Vanguard)
