Chelle, Super Eagles newly-appointed Head Coach
The newly appointed Super Eagles Coach, Eric Chelle, will receive a monthly salary of $55,000, equivalent to N84.98 million.
Chelle was announced as Nigerian coach on Tuesday after the NFF Executive Committee endorsed the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for his appointment.
The former Malian coach is expected to arrive in Nigeria tomorrow (Saturday) with two assistants and will be unveiled next Monday in Abuja.
According to online reports, Chelle’s two assistants will collect $5,000 monthly. The new Super Eagles Coach will get to work immediately as he is expected to take charge of the Super Eagles B team, who will compete for honours at the 2025 Championship of African Nations (CHAN). The 8th CHAN hold from February 1-28, 2025.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), revealed to The Guardian, yesterday that top on the contract handed to Chelle is to ensure the Super Eagles team B get to the final of the fast-approaching CHAN Championships to be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, and also qualify Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to the co-hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
“The major issue is the Super Eagles’ qualification for the FIFA World Cup. The NFF has also clarified to Chelle that he must take the CHAN Eagles to at least the final. To me, these are tough challenges for the new coach, but in football, nothing is impossible,” the source said.
No official of the NFF was ready to speak on the issue yesterday. (The Guardian)
