The Lagos State Government has introduced monthly landmark tours aimed at showcasing the city’s cultural heritage and boosting its tourism appeal.
The tours, which will span both land and water, are part of a broader initiative to highlight Lagos’s growing transportation and tourism sectors on a global scale.
Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, announced the plan during a hosting event for Nigerians in the diaspora. The event featured a city tour themed “Lagos Tourism is Rising.”
“Through this initiative, we aim to promote our cultural heritage and strengthen ties with the Diaspora community. It’s an opportunity to explore Lagos’s scenic views, cultural history, and vibrant atmosphere,” Aregbe said.
The tours will also serve as a gesture of appreciation to the diaspora and international visitors who regard Lagos as a prime destination for business and leisure.
The inaugural tour included stops at the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Nike Art Gallery, and a final dinner event. Participants experienced Lagos through double-decker buses, motorbike convoys, and Lagos Ride vehicles, exploring iconic areas like Ikoyi, Lekki, and Lagos Island.
The road show gave guests the opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled ride with music, dance, and conversations as the double-decker tour bus, convoys of motorbikes, and the beautiful Lagos Ride vehicles moved around.
Dignitaries at the event included Khadijat Omotayo, Presidential Aide on Constituency Affairs; Oluwatoyin Atekoja, Permanent Secretary for Lagos Tourism; and cultural figures such as Nike Davies-Okundaye, actor Femi Adebayo, and DJ DSF.
The government hopes the initiative will foster stronger cultural ties and position Lagos as a leading tourism destination. (The Guardian)
