Uzodimma leads Presidential Group to salvage Super Eagles 2026 World Cup hopes

Gov Uzodinma of Imo State

Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, has stepped up his support for Imo State Government-owned NPFL outfit Heartland FC and appointed former Super Eagles star, Emmanuel Amuneke, as head coach.

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, who has also invested heavily in sports, is also on this Presidential task force.

Several notable sponsors and promoters of Nigeria football are also represented on this committee, SCORENigeria has reliably been informed.

The Federal Government has already allocated Three Billion Naira from the 2025 budget to the Presidential committee to start up its operations.

Like it was for the 2010 World Cup qualification with the Presidential Task Force (PTF), the PSG will provide additional administrative and logistical support for the Super Eagles to turn around their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Super Eagles are hard pressed to qualify for the next World Cup after a dismal start in the qualifying campaign that has seen them win only three points from four rounds of matches.

In March, they fly out to group leaders Rwanda before they welcome bottom team Zimbabwe.

South Africa, Benin and Lesotho are the other teams in this group with only the overall group winners guaranteed automatic passage to the 2026 World Cup to be hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico. (SCORENigeria)
