Federal Medical Centre, Keffi introduces telemedicine services

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, Nasarawa state, says it has introduced telemedicine services and electronic medical record keeping to boost healthcare delivery.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Joshua Giyan-Ndom, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi on Friday.

Giyan-Ndom said the centre has electronic medical records and fees collection, solar power option as well as electronic health/telemedicine.

“There are three mandates of establishing this centre; one is to provide tertiary healthcare services to Nigerians like the specialist hospitals, teaching hospitals and National hospital, and they are final point of call of patients to access medical care services in the country.

“The second mandate is the training of manpower in the area of internship, residency and all form of training of staff for excellent result, while the third mandate is research and the centre had achieved that within the shortest period of time, we thank God.”

“Since I took my appointment on April 1, 2010, we have the modern facilities to tackle the health challenges of the host communities and Nigerians at large.

“We have modern facilities in almost all the departments, for example in the Laboratory department, we have the automated equipment where you just put in a blood or sample and it does the test by itself and the result come out precisely, that has removed human error.

“In the eye department, we have modern equipments and cameras for the checking of the pressure of the eye, taking picture of the back of the eye, and in Radiology department we have the CT Scan that tells what happen to the brain and to the whole body.

“We have the direct digital machine in the pharmacy department, we have the modern equipment to take care of the drugs and also in the mortuary, we have cooling chambers that can house up to 60 corpses and we have facilities for doing autopsy, among other modern facilities, said the medical director.

According to him, the centre had inaugurated nine standard projects in 2013 and commenced Residency programme in four specialties.

Giyan-Ndom said with this development the centre was achieving its core mandate of providing tertiary healthcare services using modern facilities

Besides, the medical director renewed the commitment of the management of the centre to continue to improve on the welfare of its staff and called on them to complement government efforts through hard work in order to ensure quality service delivery. (NAN)
