The Kwara State Government has demoted by two grades the secondary school teacher who beat up a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member last week.

The state government also transferred the teacher, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, from the Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, to a yet-to-be-disclosed area.

The panel set up by the government, which included the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa?adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, said the measures are to forestall future occurrences.

A joint statement by the duo found Hajia Fatimoh guilty of ?fighting on duty, use of foul language, insubordination, and disrespect for the national identity which the uniform of the corps members represents.?

?Her behaviour contravenes public service rules, and she has therefore been demoted by two grade levels,? according to the statement.

It added: ?The teacher Is also to be transferred out of her current school as well as undergo counselling sessions.

?The State Government will not tolerate such abuse under any guise,? it disclosed, regretting the action of the teacher and reassuring the management of the NYSC.

It said: ?The development does not represent the people of the state, and it will not happen again.?

The statement, however, urged teachers in the state to remain law-abiding at all times by performing their duties in accordance with laid-down procedures, as the state government will continue to prioritise training on teaching ethics and procedures of service. (The Guardian)
