Tasleem Baba Nabegu
The Kano State Police Command has arrested and detained Tasleem Baba Nabegu, the nominal complainant in the allegation of adultery involving his wife and Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Danladi Sankara.
Nabegu’s arrest occurred less than 24 hours after a Kano Upper Sharia Court, presided over by Khadi Ibrahim Sarki Yola, dismissed the adultery case filed against the commissioner.
The complainant was taken into custody shortly after addressing a press conference rejecting the Sharia Court’s verdict.
Confirming the development to *The Guardian*, Nabegu’s lawyer, Barrister Saidu Mohammed Tudun-Wada, revealed that his client was arrested, handcuffed, and whisked away as he exited the law firm.
According to the lawyer, the police explained that Nabegu’s arrest followed a complaint from his wife, who accused him of cyberstalking.
“Our client was arrested and detained by the police this afternoon in front of my office. He had just addressed the press and was leaving when he was accosted by the police, handcuffed, and taken to the State CID.
“The police said she had formally lodged a complaint with the commissioner of police, who directed the CID to invite him. However, he was instead arrested and handcuffed as soon as he left my office.
“She claimed her husband accessed her phone and obtained classified information from her WhatsApp and other private folders. She also alleged that he stole pictures and other private information during the process,” Barrister Saidu explained.
Meanwhile, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has lifted the suspension previously placed on the embattled Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, Sankara’s reinstatement takes effect immediately following the Kano Sharia Court judgment that exonerated him of the alleged illicit act. (The Guardian: Text, Excluding Headline)
